BCDA Forum

The Philippine Army commended the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) for its all-out continuous support for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Brigadier Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., commander of the 202nd Infantry Unifier Brigade, said BCDA has always been a valued partner of the Army.

In a forum in Cavinti, Laguna, Burgos told his troops about the recent unveiling of the Alab ng Puso sculpture in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), and the other projects of BCDA for the AFP.

“By doing so, the Filipino people will forever be reminded of the soldiers’ noble act of giving up parts of our camps in the name of peace and progress for our generation and the generations to come,” said Burgos.

The Alab ng Puso sculpture is the first of the many historical markers to be installed in BGC, Taguig in honor of the AFP’s sacrifices. The installation of markers also aims to promote the historical value of Fort Bonifacio, a former military camp.

Burgos also cited the “Sundalo Ko, Bayani Ko” project of BCDA, which granted discounts and special privileges to members of the AFP, as well as the exhibit “Ang Huling Tikas Pahinga: Isang Pagpupugay sa mga Bayani ng Marawi” held November last year with President Duterte as guest of honor.

“The activity became a venue for the government and the people alike to express their admiration to our willingness to go in harm’s way so that other families may live together in peace,” Burgos said.

BCDA President and CEO Vivencio Dizon, for his part, highlighted BCDA’s mandate to strengthen the Armed Forces while building great cities.

“This gathering is very important for us because we want you to know that the BCDA is here; it exists to help the AFP,” Dizon said.

Since the agency was created in 1992, BCDA was able to remit P40 billion to the AFP. Of the total amount, 20 percent or P8 billion was remitted during the first two years of the Duterte administration.

“The President has actually done something that no other president has done; he has unified the entire country – walang kulay, walang asul, pula o dilaw – in support of our men and women in uniform,” Dizon said.
